Nourish: Garlic Fried Rice

At OWIU Goods, we find comfort in the simplest meals - the kind that doesn’t ask for much, just a handful of familiar ingredients and the rhythm of the kitchen. This garlic fried rice is one of those recipes: easy, fragrant, and deeply satisfying. Every grain is kissed with garlic oil, a touch of butter, and soft curds of egg, best made with leftover rice from yesterday’s dinner. We hope you love this as much as we do.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups day-old cold rice
  • 1–2 cloves garlic (for garlic oil)
  • 2 tablespoons of neutral oil
  • 2–3 cloves garlic, finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon of butter
  • 1 tablespoon of oyster sauce
  • 2 eggs, beaten and seasoned with a hint of salt
  • 1 tablespoon of light soy sauce
  • Pinch of salt, to taste
  • 1 tablespoon of chopped chives

Steps

  1. Start by preparing the garlic oil. In a small pan, gently heat neutral oil with 1–2 cloves of crushed garlic until fragrant and golden, then strain and set the oil aside.
  2. In a bowl, toss day-old rice with oyster sauce and a drizzle of the garlic oil, breaking up any clumps so each grain is evenly coated.
  3. Heat a little butter in a pan over medium heat, add the chopped garlic, and sauté until lightly golden. Add the marinated rice and stir-fry until the grains are hot and fragrant.
  4. Push the rice to one side of the pan and pour in the beaten eggs seasoned with a hint of salt. Let them set slightly before scrambling and folding them through the rice.
  5. Finally, add a small splash of light soy sauce and a pinch of salt to taste, then continue stir-frying until the rice is evenly coated and lightly crisp at the edges. Finish with a handful of chopped chives and serve warm.
