Nourish: Golden Shrimp Wontons

Crispy, golden, and filled with juicy, flavorful shrimp, these Golden Shrimp Wontons are the kind of dish that vanishes within minutes of hitting the table. Whether enjoyed during a festive Lunar New Year gathering or as an indulgent snack, they bring the perfect balance of delicate crunch and rich umami flavors in every bite.

What makes these so addictive is the contrast of textures—the crisp, airy wrapper giving way to a juicy, aromatic filling. We use a combination of fresh shrimp, fragrant aromatics, and a touch of seasoning that deepens the natural sweetness of the seafood. Light and incredibly satisfying, these are best served straight from the fryer, dipped in a sweet chilli sauce.

The best part of this recipe is its versatility. While we love the balance of flavors in our version, you can easily adjust it to suit your own pantry—swap the aromatics, play with the seasonings, or add a hint of spice for a bolder profile.

Golden Shrimp Wontons Recipe

Filling Ingredients

  • 200 grams of shrimp, peeled and finely chopped
  • 2 tablespoons of chives, finely chopped
  • tablespoons of spring onions, finely chopped
  • tablespoon of sake
  • 1 teaspoon of sesame oil
  • ½ teaspoon of sugar
  • teaspoon of cornstarch
  • ½ teaspoon of salt
  • ¼ teaspoon of white pepper powder
  • ½ tablespoon of oyster sauce
  • 1 teaspoon of soy sauce

Assembly & Frying Ingredients

  • 20-25 square wonton wrappers
  • 1 small bowl of water (for sealing the wrappers)
  • Neutral oil for frying (e.g., vegetable or peanut oil)

Steps

  1. Make the filling: In a bowl, combine the shrimp, chives, and spring onions. Add sake, sesame oil, sugar, cornstarch, salt, white pepper, oyster sauce, and soy sauce. Mix well until the filling becomes slightly sticky. Let it marinate for 15–20 minutes.

  2. Next we wrap the wontons, you can wrap them in any shape you want but we just did a simple fold in half to make a triangle, sealed with water while pressing the edges tightly.

  3. Heat neutral oil in a deep pan or pot to 350°F (175°C).Fry the wontons in batches, being careful not to overcrowd the pan. Cook for 2–3 minutes per batch or until they turn golden brown and crisp. Drain on a wire rack or paper towel. Serve immediately with a sweet chilli dipping sauce.

We hope you enjoy these little morsels of happiness just as much as we do!
